Cross on Tort Reform, Stem Cell Research, Death Penalty

Cross stated that he thought the passage of the med mal bill was contingent on Jones and Speaker Mike. The rather fatuitous interview inquired, "Why is Speaker Mike opposed to tort reform?" That's kind of like saying, "Why does the sun come up in the East." I don't think that Speaker Mike and Jones will ever explicitly endorse it, but I think a sort of "Perfect Storm"(to borrow a phrase from Terry Tempest Williams)of moderate Democrats could usher it through. There still remains the problem of a veto proof majority, but that may change in 2006, if you know what I mean. Heck, by then, Cross may be Speaker. Cross also mentioned his having met with Cardinal Francis George to discuss stem cell research. Cross thought that the death penalty reform bill could pass.
