In this post, Representative Fritchey addresses the putatively geographic divide that creates cultural and political schisms in the state of Illinois. It seems that demography is equal in import to geography. Many of the factors that are frequently cited as evidence of a suburban-downstate or a Chicago-downstate divide are, in actuality, socioeconomic, i.e. cultural and political tastes. The voters of CD-3 have much in common with the voters of CD-17, except for the distance between houses.
