A Look at the 27th Senatorial/53rd House

State Rep Sidney Mathias(R-Buffalo Grove) of the 53rd House district is seriously considering a bid for the Illinois Senate from the 27th district, a seat that will be vacated by Sen. Wendell E Jones(R-Palatine) when he does not seek another term. Mathias was first elected in 1998. Ensuing are his prior winning percentages
2004-52.65-Turnout was very high. The candidacy of libertarian Scott Bludhorn decreased Mathias's numbers.
State Sen Wendell E Jones has announced his intentions to retire. He was appointed, in 1998, to the seat of Peter Fitzgerald when the latter was elected to the US Senate. Jones's prior winning percentages ensue.
2002-59.86- Turnout was relatively low in 2002 and Jones sailed to victory.
2000-50.69- Jones won his first race by 943 votes.
