Take That, Mr Roeper!

I'm certain that you are familiar with the "Today's Military" print ads run by the US Armed Forces that depict minorities and females who are veterans and reservists. I was out somewhere and flipping through the April issue of "Ebony" in which I saw one such advert, focusing on one of the first female electricians in the Air Force, Sandra Sessoms-Penny, who is African American. Mrs Penny retired as a senior master sergeant after having served 23 years. She indeed exemplifies the sort of tenacity and perseverance that make an ideal serviceperson is worthy of commendation for her pioneering achievements. The armed forces also deserve credit for designing this series of ads, which no doubt serve to redefine their popular impression of the military as an institution of only those white and male.
