Reid Avows Opposition to Roberts

The Senate minority leader has announced his decision to vote against the nomination of John Roberts as chief justice of the US Supreme Court. This move is expected to catalyze Democratic opposition to the heretofore uncontroversial nominee. While Reid seemed to acknowledge that Roberts would likely be confirmed, he added that a "signficiant" number of no votes would influence the President's choice of the next nominee(for the seat vacated by Sandra Day O'Connor). Reid, a social conservative, stunned DC observers with his jeremiad.
