Coulson to Seek Another Term

One of Obiter Dictum's favorites, state Rep. Beth Coulson(R-Glenview), has announced her decision to seek a sixth term from the 17th district. "I've been a leader on health care issues every year I've been in Springfield. I want to continue the work I've started," said she. Truer words were never spoken.

In 2004, Rep. Coulson scored a decisive victory against political neophyte Michelle Bromburg, promting many to speculate that she will not face a Tier 1 race in the future.( This was her second run in a district gerrymandered by Speaker Mike in a series of moves designed to elect his daughter AG.) Coulson, a former teacher and college professor, was first elected in 1996. She is the ranking minority member on the Registration and Regulation Committee. Rep. Coulson has sponsored numerous pieces of groundbreaking legislation, from the Abandoned Baby Act to the creation of the circuit breaker program. She is widely renowned as a cerebral and moderate voice for the suburbs and the people of Illinois.
