The DS has an article on a southside campaign against domestic violence.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"A beautiful woman donning a glistening wedding ring — and a black eye the color of a storm cloud — stares out from a poster. Below her it reads: 'The doorknob did it.'"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The cooridinator of the effort recalls her mother's having offered that explanation for the series of injuries she incurred at her father's hand. She herself was later "half beaten to death" by an abusive partner. Domestic violence is a scrouge of poverty and chauvenism and a vicious cycle of abasement for those who are victims of it.
