Former Patronage Chief "Helped the City Work"

In the words of one of his former colleagues, former Daley patronage chief Robert Sorich "helped to make it[the city] work." Sorich and three others were arraigned on Shakman-related federal charges of fraud and plead not guilty. A fifth defendant has yet to be arraigned and is expected to strike a plea bargain. Wrote the AP on the subject:
The case strikes at the heart of Daley's political empire-- much of which has long been manned by doorbell-ringing precinct workers who get out the Democratic vote on election day. (See article here.)
Counsel representing the defendants hoped the the indictment would be ruled "defective" by Judge David H Coar because no criminal activity is alleged.
