The Generous Mr. Ryan

Fawell's testimony continues today as he regales the jury with stories of generous gifts made by the former governor to family members and friends, including his mother-in-law's caregiver. Fawell also recounts having urged Ryan to remove from public disclosure statements a reference to $10,000 from CFR used to subsidize his daughter's wedding. The one time chief of staff is also expected to identify Ryan as having set aside $500,000 in campaign funds as "nest egg" in cast he lost the 1994 SOS race in which Fawell earlier described him as having "beat[en] Quinn like a tom-tom."
Also introduced was evidence that an SOS employee in Naperville pilfered $2,600 to cover the cost of campaign fundraiser tickets of which purchase was mandatory.
The trial is in recess today and will resume on Tuesday.
