Russ Stewart gives us a lesson in political geopgrahy. Among other revelations he makes is that no Democrat has served on the McHenry County Board since the Civil War. Says he,"McHenry County is now where Lake County was at in the early 1990s." He goes on to make observations on the growing influence of the Democratic party in the far northwest suburbs. A similar process is taking place in the other once GOP bastions of DuPage and Will counties, but the political evolution(or, some would say, devolution) is not limited to the Chicago area. Democrats long ago made inroads in the once unremittingly Republican Champaign County, as we remarked in this post.
