South Suburban Highschool Students Find Common Ground

After a controversial remark made by a Lincoln Way school board member(who subsequently resigned) earlier this year, in which she characterized predominantly African American Rich East Highschool as "like a zoo" and made references to "poor blackie" students, Lincoln Way East students "shadowed" their counterparts at Rich East. Later this month, Lincoln Way East will reciprocate.
The comment, made on the answering machine of a Sun Times reporter, was at the height of a then continual dispute over a the proposed division of a south suburban athletic conference that would take place along racial and economic lines. The Lincoln Way district encompasses the comfortable suburb of Frankfort, while Rich East is in blue collar Park Forest.
