AG Lisa Madigan, in announcing her own 06 bid, became the latest high-profile Democrat to refuse to endorse gov. Rod Blagojevich for re-election. Besdies the obvious familal ties peculiar to this case, antagonism between the AG and the governor is nothing new. Scott and Thompson were political rivals. Thompson and Burris came from opposite parties and the Lege cut appropriations for the AG's office under "Big Jim's" watch. The very nature of the office is one of antagonism, as others have said, would you keep a good lawyer if he(or she) sues you now and then? It has also been suggested that there be on official to represent the state and another to represent the people, which makes the rather disturbing assumption that the two are inherently at odds.
