DNR Head to Step Aside

Joel Brunsvold, director since 2003 of the state Department of Natural Resources, has announced his retirement. Brunsvold, in the proud tradition of people from Illinois towns named after much cooler places, represented Milan in the Illinois House for twenty years. Serving as interim director will be Sam Flood, a prominent player in St. Clair County D politics, who has made nearly three thousand dollars in reported contributions to Democratic candidates.

DNR, charged with overseeing state parks and recreational facilities, and normally staid made less than favorable headlines in recent months. Earlier this year, a laid off DNR employee was denied a wheelchair that had been adapted(at state expense) for his use. Brunsvold himself had come under fire for his dubious use of state helicopters.
