Oberweis Blames Topinka, Governor for Illinois's Loss

Jim Oberweis's campaign has issued a press release saying that two of his political foes are to blame for Illinois's loss to Washington on Saturday night. That game ended NCAA action for the Illini. Oberweis said, "Judy Topinka and Rod Blagojevich have created a hostile environment for college basketball in this state. My projections show that we will not be able to meet Coach Weber's pension obligations." He added that,"I hear that they were playing with illegal, south-of-the-border basketballs. That may have jinxed their chances."

Governor Blagojevich said Oberweis's claims are "absolutely not true." He added, "We did everything we could to make sure Illinois won, including a bond issue." The Governor did admit that the public scandal over the Hate Crimes Commission may have had something to do with it. "I am very sorry that, because of Sister Muhammad, this has all come down to color. Some of us are orange, and some of us are blue."

According to Topinka, Oberweis was "crying over spilled milk." She said,"Everyone knows that athletes need nourishing meals. Unfortunately for Mr. Oberweis, ice cream does not qualify."
